19E and 15E Projects
Involvement in the 19E and 15E loco new build program
Knorr-Bremse (SA) (Pty) Ltd is proud to be the sole supplier for all air supply and brake equipment fitted to the new 19E and 15E locomotive build program.
The 19E locomotive is being built for the coal line, transporting coal from the mines around Ermelo to the port in Richards Bay. These locomotives include the latest in computer controlled brakes and boast both electronic controlled pneumatic brakes for wagons and wire distributed power for distributed locomotive control.
The 15E locomotive is being built for the iron ore line, transporting iron ore from Sishen to the port in Saldanha. These locomotives also include the latest in computer controlled brakes and include radio distributed power to compliment the current 9E locomotive fleet.
For these locomotives, KB-SA has developed two functional stand alone modules. One for air supply and one for air brake equipment. This means that an all inclusive module has been developed for locomotive air supply, including compressed air supply and conditioning of air, and a second all inclusive module for air brake equipment, including the brake system with all electronics, wheel slide and auxiliary equipment.
